President & Managing Director
James Christie joined W.L. Bryant Co. in 1993, and became managing director of Bryant Christie Inc. in 1996. He opened the Sacramento office and was named president of the firm in 2002. James is a primary member of the firm's market access and foreign government affairs group, and leads the international marketing group. As president, he serves as BCI's chief financial and executive officer.
In addition to his business and management responsibilities, Mr. Christie has led a wide range of international marketing and market access projects on behalf of BCI clients. He has helped secure market access for U.S. agricultural products in Australia, Mexico, China, Japan, and Chile. In addition he has helped maintain or improve market access in numerous markets around the world.
Prior to joining the firm, he served for three years as the president and general manager of the California Cherry Export Association and the California Cherry Advisory Board. During his tenure, the California Cherry Advisory Board was formed. Prior to his work with the California cherry industry, he served as assistant general manager of the California Cling Peach Advisory Board.
Between 1992 and 1993, Mr. Christie served as Grower Member on the California Pear Advisory Board. Between 1995 and 1997 he served on the PMA International Trade Committee and in 1996, he joined the North American Plant Protection Organization's advisory committee. In 1998, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2008 he was appointed by the U.S. Trade Representative and the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to serve on the USTR/USDA Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for fresh and processed fruits and vegetables that advises the Administration on trade policy issues. In 2005 and 2008, he was elected to the U.S. Agricultural Export Development Council's Executive Committee.
In addition to his BCI leadership and committee assignments, Mr. Christie remains active in the management of his family's California farm operation.
Mr. Christie is a graduate of the University of California at Davis with a degree in Fermentation Science and an emphasis in Agricultural Economics. He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration emphasizing international marketing, from the University of California at Irvine. While at UC Irvine, Mr. Christie was awarded the George W. Brown award for "outstanding overall academic excellence and exceptional service to the UCI Graduate School of Management."
