On February 1, 2013, the US EPA published a final rule, 78 FR 7266, in the US Federal Register adding MRLs for the active ingredient alpha-cypermethrin. This is a new active ingredient for the US, as MRLs were not previously established for this isomer.

The European Union has adopted Commission Regulation (EU) No 35/2013. This regulation puts into effect MRLs to address new and changed pesticide uses for various commodities. MRLs are amended for the active ingredients dimethomorph, indoxacarb, pyraclostrobin, and trifloxystrobin. These changes go into effect on February 15, 2013.

Relevant changes will appear in www.mrldatabase.com mid-February, upon entry into force.

The European Union has adopted Commission Regulation (EU) No 34/2013. This regulation puts into effect MRLs to address new and changed pesticide uses for various commodities.

MRLs are amended for the following active ingredients: ametoctradin, Aureobasidium pullulans strains DSM 14940 and DSM 14941, cyproconazole, difenoconazole, dithiocarbamates, folpet, propamocarb, spinosad, spirodiclofen, tebufenpyrad and tetraconazole. These changes entered into force on January 27, 2013.

On January 18, 2013, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) published Food Standards Gazette - Amendment 138. This amendment includes changes to Standard 1.4.2, Australia's maximum residue limit regulation.

With the increased global interest in food safety, many markets are both restructuring and more actively updating their food regulations. As a result, in the area of agricultural pesticide products, regulations for maximum residue levels (MRLs) are changing frequently, yet these regulations are not always transparent or easily-accessible. BCI MRL News will serve as a single, consolidated source for up-to-date MRL regulatory policy information from around the globe.

In addition to providing customized international regulatory data services, Bryant Christie Inc. (BCI) is jointly retained by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to maintain and update www.mrldatabase.com. The announcements posted on this forum compliment the data in the USDA-EPA MRL Database, communicating specific updates to the database as well as regulatory source information. 

BCI monitors international databases, government gazettes and regulatory websites, as well as World Trade Organization (WTO) member notifications on a daily basis. Stories will be posted as MRL-related news is located throughout the week.  Interested parties are encouraged to subscribe to be notified by email of new postings.
