On February 4, the European Union published Reg. (EU) 2016/143, amending the regulatory status of COS-OGA, cerevisane, calcium hydroxide, lecithins, Salix spp cortex, vinegar, fructose, Pepino mosaic virus strain CH2 isolate 1906, Verticillium albo-atrum isolate WCS850 and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens subsp. plantarum strain D747.

Relevant changes will be added to Global MRL Database.

On May 13, the European Union approved calcium hydroxide as a basic substance, following EFSA's technical report published in September 2014.

This regulation shall apply starting July 1, 2015.

On September 9, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published the outcome of consultations with Member States on the basic substance application of calcium hydroxide for use in plant protection against fungal diseases on pome fruit. 

Basic substances, as defined by the European Commission, are substances not predominately used for plant protection purposes but which may be of value for plant protection and for which the economic interest of applying for approval may be limited.
