The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) recently published JMPR 2018 September: Summary Report, recommending MRLs that will be considered at the 2019 CCPR meeting to be held April 8-12, 2019.

The Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) is the scientific committee that reviews MRL submissions to Codex and proposes new and revised MRLs for the CCPR to consider at its annual meeting.

Relevant proposed MRLs will display in the Global MRL Database on October 24, 2018.

On August 8, the United States Food Safety and Inspection Service published an update on recent Codex Alimentarius activities, including the 2018 meetings of the Codex Commission for Food Additives and the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) recently published its Report from the 41st Session, held July 2-6, 2018 in Rome, Italy. The report summarizes MRLs adopted, withdrawn, or retained as proposals for numerous pesticides and veterinary drugs. These MRLs were initially recommended at the 50th Session of the CCPR.

Relevant pesticide and veterinary drug MRL changes will display in the Global MRL Database on July 25, 2018.

The 41st Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) was held from July 2 to 6, 2018. Codex, which is run jointly by the WHO and FAO, sets various guidelines to promote international food safety. Standards adopted by the CAC that contain updated food additive provisions are detailed in the report. These food additive revisions were recommended by the Codex Committee on Food Additives in April

The 50th Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) was held April 9-14, 2018 in Haikou, China. Kimberly Berry, Director of Regulatory Data, and Ann Stevenson, Manager of Regulatory Databases, attended the meeting on behalf of several commodity groups.

Nearly 500 MRLs were recommended for inclusion in the international Codex pesticide MRL standard. These will be officially established if approved by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) during their July meeting.

Other topics discussed at the meeting include: revisions to the Codex Classification of Food and Feed; a possible revision of the international estimate of short-term intake (IESTI) equation; an extraordinary session of the Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) in May 2019 to be hosted by Canada; the 2019 JMPR evaluations for Codex Schedules and Priority Lists of Pesticides; and the ongoing development of a national registration database of pesticides. 

Details about the recommended MRLs and other meeting topics can be found in the final report. BCI closely monitors Codex MRLs from proposal through establishment. This information is included the Global MRL Database.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has published its full report of the 50th Session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) meeting, which was held March 26-30 in Xiamen, China. This report includes draft food additive amendments proposed for adoption by the CAC.

The report summarizes MRLs adopted, withdrawn, or retained as proposals for numerous pesticides. These MRLs were initially recommended at the 49th Session of the CCPR.

Relevant MRL changes are now reflected in the Global MRL Database.

Codex, which is run jointly by the WHO and FAO, sets various guidelines to promote international food safety. Standards adopted by the CAC that contain updated food additive provisions are detailed in the 40th CAC Session Report. These food additive revisions were recommended by the Codex Committee on Food Additives in March.
