On September 23, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare published a proposal to amend numerous MRLs for pesticides and veterinary drugs. Comments on these proposals are due by October 7, 2016. Any proposals containing MRL decreases will likely be announced to the WTO in the coming months.

Relevant proposed MRLs will display in the Global MRL Database by September 30, 2016.

On June 11, the European Union (EU) published MRL amendment Commission Regulation (EU) No 617/2014 in the EU Official Journal. This regulation includes MRLs for ethoxysulfuron, metsulfuron-methyl, nicosulfuron, prosulfuron, rimsulfuron, sulfosulfuron and thifensulfuron-methyl in or on certain products.

Further details, including MRL tables, may be found via the linked Official Journal document. MRLs in this regulation will apply starting January 2, 2015, and relevant regulatory changes will appear in www.mrldatabase.com at that time.

The European Union recently notified the WTO of draft MRLs for the active ingredients ethoxysulfuron, metsulfuron-methyl, nicosulfuron, prosulfuron, rimsulfuron, sulfosulfuron and thifensulfuron-methyl.

The EU is proposing to adopt these changes in May 2014. Comments are due by February 17, 2014.

On December 2, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published EFSA supporting publication 2013:EN-511, a set of case studies for the application of the guidance of EFSA on submission of scientific peer-reviewed open literature for the approval of pesticide active substances under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.

The case studies concerned metalaxyl-M, metsulfuron-methyl, and thifensulfuron-methyl, which all currently have dossiers submitted under Regulation (EU) No 1141/2010.
