On February 21, Egypt notified the WTO of Law No. 1/2017 regarding the Egyptian National Food Safety Authority (NFSA). The NFSA will be responsible for the formulation of food safety regulations, as well as the inspection and control of food. Law No. 1/2017 is effective from January 11, 2017.

Recently, the United States Department of Agriculture's Foreign Service published Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) Country Reports for the following countries:

Information on pesticides and other contaminants is included in Section III for Egypt and Nigeria, Section IV for Lithuania, and Section V for Venezuela, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, and India. The Global MRL Database currently displays relevant established and proposed MRLs for these markets.

On October 26, the WTO published an addendum extending the comment period on the draft Egyptian Standard for Maximum Level for Certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs previously notified in August. The new comment deadline is November 21, 2015.

On August 13, Egypt notified the WTO of its Draft Egyptian Standard for Maximum Level for certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs, set to supersede ES No. 7136/2010. The draft complies with EU Directive No. 1881/2006 Maximum Levels for certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs.

Comments are due by October 12, 2015.
