Recently, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) notified the WTO of proposed MRL changes for buprofezin, fipronil, EPN, and fluthiacet-methyl, as well as a number of MRL withdrawals.

The final date for comments on buprofezin, fipronil, EPN, and fluthiacet-methyl is October 3, 2017. The final date for comments on the MRL withdrawals is October 6, 2017. Relevant MRLs will be added to the Global MRL Database after they are established.

On June 2, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare published a proposal to amend numerous MRLs for pesticides and veterinary drugs in addition to proposing the withdrawal of MRLs for 56 pesticides and veterinary drugs. Comments on these proposals are due by June 15, 2017. Any proposals containing MRL decreases will likely be announced to the WTO in the coming months.

Relevant proposed MRLs will display in the Global MRL Database by June 7, 2017.

On March 20, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published draft amendments proposing changes to the monographs for quizalofop-P, pyriproxyfen, fluazinam, formetanate, fenpropathrin, thiophanate-methyl, and fipronil (links in Portuguese).

Comments on these proposals must be submitted by April 18, 2017. Relevant proposed MRLs have been added to the Global MRL Database.

On July 18, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published amendments for chlorantraniliprole, alpha-cypermethrin, bifenthrin, acetamiprid, azoxystrobin, carfentrazone-ethyl, cypermethrin, thiamethoxam, thiophanate-methyl, pyraclostrobin, imibenconazole, fipronil, and spinosad.

MRL changes from these amendments will be entered in the Global MRL Database by Wednesday, July 20.

On June 8, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published draft amendments proposing changes for the following active ingredients (in Portuguese): thiamethoxam, thiophanate-methyl, pyraclostrobin, imibenconazole, fluxapyroxad, fipronil, spinosad, difenoconazole, chlorantraniliprole, alpha-cypermethrin, carfentrazone-ethyl, cypermethrin, bifenthrin, acetamiprid, and azoxystrobin.

Comments on these proposals must be submitted by July 7, 2016. Relevant proposed MRLs will show in the Global MRL Database next week.

On March 31, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a technical report on its open call for new scientific information as regards the risk to bees from the uses of the active substance fipronil in the EU.

The European Union's currently established fipronil MRLs display in the Global MRL Database.

On September 1, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) initiated a call for national authorities, research bodies, industry, and other interested organizations to submit new information related to the risk to bees from the insecticide fipronil.

All information must be submitted by January 15, 2016. EFSA will then review the material and present a conclusion concerning an updated risk assessment.

On October 24, the European Union published amendment Commission Regulations (EU) No 1126/2014 and (EU) No 1127/2014 in the EU Official Journal concerning MRLs for multiple active ingredients in or on certain products.

Both regulations shall apply from May 13, 2015, and relevant changes will be made to MRL Database at that time.

On June 17, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published Gazette No. 12 - 17 June 2014. Pages 30-33 of the gazette outline established MRLs for several pesticides on various commodities, amending Australia's Standard 1.4.2.

These changes will appear in www.mrldatabase.com shortly.
