On May 21, the U.S. FDA published a denial of a food additive petition that requested the amendment of the U.S. food additive regulations to provide for the use of partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (PHOs) in certain foods. The FDA also notified an extension of the compliance date for certain uses of PHOs as regards a June 2015 FDA determination that PHOs are no longer considered generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
