The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) recently published a report notifying readers of updates to Hong Kong's national MRL standard.

The specific MRL revisions have not yet been released to the public, as the Hong Kong Government (HKG) will first send the list to the Legislative Council for vetting and approval. Although the MRL proposal is not available at this time, the report states that 431 MRLs will be added, 347 MRLs will be removed, and 417 MRLs will be revised.

Hong Kong enacted its first national MRL standard in 2012, and it will enter into force on August 1, 2014. The MRL changes announced in this recent report reflect the HKG's incorporation of MRLs established by the international Codex Alimentarius in 2012 and 2013. The HKG has pledged to include the Codex MRL updates before their national standard takes effect in August. MRLs proposed by stakeholders following the enactment of the national regulation in 2012 were also taken into consideration with this recent update.

Hong Kong's national MRL standard will be displayed in www.mrldatabase.com when it takes effect in August 2014. The database currently displays Codex MRLs.
