On March 12, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published several Scientific Opinions on the re-evaluation of (E 483), (E 353), (E 334, E 335, E 336, E 337, E 354), and (E 472a‐f) as food additives.

Recently, the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service published a Food and Agricultural Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) report for Libya.

The BCGlobal Food Additive Database includes maximum use level regulations for over 850 additives in more than 70 countries worldwide. Please contact BCI for more information on subscribing.

The BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database currently displays relevant established and proposed MRLs for Libya.

On March 4, China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs opened a public consultation (in Chinese) on draft MRLs for zeranol, trenbolone acetate, and melengestrol acetate in or on cattle muscle.

Comments were due by March 6, 2020. Relevant proposed MRLs will display in the BCGlobal Vet Drug MRL Database on March 12, 2020.

On March 11, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published draft amendments proposing to revise the monographs for MCPA, picoxystrobin, aminopyralid, difenoconazole, and cyantraniliprole (links in Portuguese). 

Comments are due by May 9, 2020. Relevant proposed MRLs will display in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on March 12, 2020.

On March 10, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published APVMA Gazette No. 5, 10 March 2020. Pages 37-38 of the gazette list draft MRLs and page 43 lists amendments to MRLs for pesticides and veterinary drugs in or on various commodities.

Relevant proposed and amended MRLs will be available in the BCGlobal Pesticide and Vet Drug MRL Databases on March 11, 2020.

In February, several BCI Sacramento-office staff had the opportunity to tour the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company facility in Chico, California.  During the tour, the BCI team learned about the history of Sierra Nevada, the varieties of hops used, and the company’s sustainability initiatives.  Overall, the tour was interactive and informative, and provided excellent insight into each step of the brewing process.

Sierra Nevada is the third largest craft brewery in the U.S. and one of the largest buyers of hops in the world.  They are also an active member of the Brewers Association (BA).  BCI works with the BA on its Export Development Program—promoting and facilitating exports of U.S. craft beer.

On March 9, New Zealand's Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) published Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds, which is a consolidated MRL standard that includes amendments proposed in December 2019.

The amended MRLs will be available in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on March 10, 2020.

On March 9, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) proposed MRLs for mefentrifluconazole in or on various commodities.

Comments are due by May 23, 2020. The proposed MRLs will display in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on March 10, 2020.

On March 9, the U.S. EPA established a tolerance for residues of penoxsulam in or on artichoke, globe.

Objections and requests for hearings must be received by May 8, 2020. The newly established MRL will be available in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on March 10, 2020.
