On July 8, Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) posted Notice 2019-335 and Notice 2019-336 (in Korean) proposing revisions to their food regulations, including numerous MRL changes.

Relevant proposed MRLs will appear in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database next week.

On July 11, the European Union published Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1176 amending MRLs for 2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid methylester, mandipropamid and profoxydim in or on certain products.

Amended MRLs will be effective from January 31, 2020. Relevant pending MRL changes have been made in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database.

On July 11, Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare notified the WTO of a draft standard for pesticide residue limits in foods, proposing MRLs for multiple active ingredients on various commodities.

Comments must be submitted by September 9, 2019. Relevant proposed MRLs can be viewed in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database starting July 12, 2019.

On July 2, Morocco notified the WTO of proposed MRLs for imported tea.

On July 9, the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service published a Food and Agricultural Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) report for Morocco

On July 3, Chile’s Ministry of Health published an amendment concerning food additives to Reglamento Sanitario de los Alimentos No. 977/96. The amendment is effective from January 3, 2020.

Recently, Mexico’s Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) published amendments to Annex I, Annex III, and Annex VI of its food additive regulations. The amendments are effective from June 28, July 2, and July 3 respectively.

Recently, Health Canada published the following amendments to various Lists of Permitted Food Additives:

  • NOM/ADM-01333 modifying the List of Permitted Sweeteners and the List of Permitted Emulsifying, Gelling, Stabilizing or Thickening Agents
  • NOM/ADM-01334 modifying the List of Permitted Food Enzymes
  • NOM/ADM-01335 modifying the List of Permitted Food Additives with Other Accepted Uses
