On November 30, 2012, Vietnam's Ministry of Health published Circular 27, Guide for the Management of Food Additives.  Replacing the previous food additive regulation from 2001, this document includes a list of 400 approved additives along with their maximum use levels in food.  The regulation went into effect February 1, 2013.

The full document is available in Vietnamese only.  Further information and a partial English translation can be found in USDA GAIN Report VM3007: Vietnam Revises List of Additives Approved for Use in Food.

Vietnamese regulations are not currently included in the International Food Additive Database, but are being considered for entry in 2013.

Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária, ANVISA) recently published public consultation document Consulta Pública n° 03, de 30 de janeiro de 2013 (in Portuguese). This proposal  includes draft MRLs for the active ingredient teflubenzuron on sugarcane and cauliflower commodities.

Mark Anderson joined Bryant Christie Inc's. Sacramento Office as a member of the information services team in January of 2013.  He contributes to the regulatory database service by updating, writing and editing content. In addition Mark assists in the publication of the BCI Monitor.

Mark graduated from Wheaton College in Massachusetts with a degree in International Relations, where he received honors from both his major and his college.  During his time at Wheaton, Mark spent a year in Shanghai, China studying political economy at Fudan University.  Before joining BCI, Mark worked for United Winegrowers for Sonoma County publishing policy briefs related to natural conservation efforts.  Prior to that, Mark worked as an assistant social worker in Guayaquil, Ecuador where he developed proficiency in Spanish.

On February 1, 2013, the US EPA published a final rule, 78 FR 7266, in the US Federal Register adding MRLs for the active ingredient alpha-cypermethrin. This is a new active ingredient for the US, as MRLs were not previously established for this isomer.

The European Union has adopted Commission Regulation (EU) No 35/2013. This regulation puts into effect MRLs to address new and changed pesticide uses for various commodities. MRLs are amended for the active ingredients dimethomorph, indoxacarb, pyraclostrobin, and trifloxystrobin. These changes go into effect on February 15, 2013.

Relevant changes will appear in www.mrldatabase.com mid-February, upon entry into force.

The European Union has adopted Commission Regulation (EU) No 34/2013. This regulation puts into effect MRLs to address new and changed pesticide uses for various commodities.

MRLs are amended for the following active ingredients: ametoctradin, Aureobasidium pullulans strains DSM 14940 and DSM 14941, cyproconazole, difenoconazole, dithiocarbamates, folpet, propamocarb, spinosad, spirodiclofen, tebufenpyrad and tetraconazole. These changes entered into force on January 27, 2013.

On January 22, 2013, the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu published an amendment to the Standards for Specification, Scope, Application and Limitation of Food Additives.  The amendment applies to sweeteners, seasoning agents, and food quality improvement, fermentation and food processing agents.  These changes were originally proposed on October 1, 2012.

The International Food Additive Database has been updated to include this amendment.
