On March 11, 2013, Thailand's National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) notified the WTO of a correction to a Draft Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) Measure entitled "Food Additives (No. 4): Steviol Glycoside", which was originally notified to the WTO on December 3, 2012.

Thailand's food additive use regulations are not currently included in the International Food Additive Database, but are being considered for future inclusion.

On March 14, 2013, Health Canada's Bureau of Chemical Safety published "Consultation Document on Health Canada's Proposal to Enable the Use of a New Food Additive, Monk Fruit Extract (Luo Han Guo Extract), as a Sweetener in Table-Top Sweeteners".  The final date for comments is May 27, 2013.  Further information on Canada's food additive regulations can be found on Health Canada's Food Additives page.

The International Food Additive Database will be updated to include this amendment once it is established and in effect.

The European Union has adopted Commission Regulation (EU) No 212/2013. This regulation amends the list of food and feed products to which EU MRLs apply. New fruits, vegetables, and cereals that have recently become available in the European market have been added to this list. The EU has also included the Latin names for several existing commodities, providing clarification with regard to international taxonomy.

Relevant changes will appear in www.mrldatabase.com at the beginning of April when this regulation enters into force.

On March 13, 2013, the US EPA published a final rule, 78 FR 15880, in the Federal Register revising MRLs for the active ingredient tetrachlorvinphos. Several time-limited MRLs for animal product commodities were set to expire on March 18, 2013. The EPA has extended the revocation date for these MRLs through August 18, 2013.

March 12, 2013, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published Gazette No. 5. Within the Gazette is an amendment to Australia's MRL regulation, Standard 1.4.2 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. MRLs are updated for the following active ingredients: cloquintocet-mexyl, cyhalothrin, difenoconazole, flubendiamide, iprodione, penflufen, pyroxsulam, and thiamethoxam.

On March 12, 2013, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a Scientific Opinion titled "Statement on a refined dietary exposure assessment of erythritol (E 968) taking into account additional data provided".  This scientific assessment considered a proposed use of the food additive erythritol in beverages.

Also on March 12, EFSA published a Scientific Opinion titled "Statement on the exposure assessment of sodium stearoyl-2-lactylate and calcium stearoyl-2-lactylate including exposure resulting from extension of the authorisation of sodium stearoyl-2-lactylates".  The scientific assessment included an extension of the uses of the additives for use in emulsified cooked meat products (e.g. mortadella, paté).

The European Union's food additive use regulations are included in the International Food Additive Database.

On March 11, 2013, Health Canada's Bureau of Chemical Safety published "Consultation Document on Health Canada's Proposal to Enable the Use of a New Food Additive, Urease, as a Food Enzyme in Wine and Sake".  The final date for comments is May 24, 2013.  Further information on Canada's food additive regulations can be found on Health Canada's Food Additives page.

Canada's food additive use regulations can be found in the International Food Additive Database, though enzymes as a class typically do not fall within the scope of the database.

On March 6, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária, ANVISA) published Resolução da Diretoria Colegiada (RDC) No. 7 and RDC No. 8.  RDC No. 7 regulates the use of technological coadjuvants in the manufacture of fruit and vegetable products.  RDC No. 8 regulates the use of food additives in fruit and vegetable products.  The regulations are available only in Portuguese.  A full list of Brazil's food additive regulations can be found on ANVISA's Food Additive Legislation page.

The new regulations are currently being analyzed and entered into the International Food Additive Database.

On March 6, 2013, Health Canada's Bureau of Chemical Safety published "Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Sweeteners to Increase the Permitted Maximum Levels for Use for Acesulfame Potassium in Chewing Gum and for Sucralose in Chewing Gum and Breath Freshener Products Regulated as Food".  The amendment took effect upon publication.

On March 7, 2013, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a technical amendment to food and color additive regulations, correcting minor errors and updating office names and addresses.

The United States is not currently included in the International Food Additive Database.
