On October 24, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published a Special Gazette on 2,4-D. Proposed MRLs are listed on page 14.

Comments must be submitted to the APVMA by January 31, 2020. Proposed MRLs will be available in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on October 25.

On October 23, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published draft amendments proposing to revise the monographs for mancozeb, cyproconazole, and gibberellic acid (links in Portuguese).

Comments are due by December 21, 2019. Relevant proposed MRLs will display in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on October 24, 2019.

On October 16, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) published a trade advice notice on pyrimethanil in the product Campbell ecoFOG-160 PYR Fungicide for use on apples and pears, which includes proposed MRLs.

Proposed MRLs will be available in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on October 23.

Members of BCI’s Market Development team traveled to Massachusetts to observe the annual cranberry harvest.

This week, David McCaleb, Sarah Gelpi, and Daria Mikhalchenko of BCI’s Market Development team traveled to Massachusetts to observe the annual cranberry harvest. David, Sarah, and Daria joined the Cranberry Marketing Committee (CMC) and a team from USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service for a cranberry bog tour to learn more about the cranberry wet harvest process. The group also had the opportunity to tour a processing facility to see firsthand how the fresh fruit is then transformed into sweet dried cranberries and cranberry concentrate.

BCI’s Market Development team works with CMC on its generic international marketing program to promote exports of U.S. cranberry products globally.  To learn more about BCI’s Market Development services, click here.

On October 15, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published a direction clarifying and explaining the interpretation of Appendix A of its Food Safety & Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations) Regulations, 2011, as amended in 2016.

On October 14, Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) published Notice No. 2019-89 (link in Korean) revising their food regulations, including numerous pesticide and veterinary drug MRL changes.

MRL changes from this amendment have been entered into the BCGlobal Pesticide and Vet Drug MRL Databases.

Aaron Y. Rabinowitz joined BCI’s Seattle office in October 2019 as an International Trade Policy Assistant.

As part of the Global Access team, Aaron works to open foreign markets for U.S. agricultural commodities, monitor trade policy issues, support BCI’s MRL monitoring systems, and address international agricultural policy concerns on behalf of BCI’s clients.

Prior to joining BCI, Aaron worked as a research writer at an economic intelligence firm in Washington, DC, and as a writer and rapporteur for the Project on Foresight and Democracy.

Aaron is a graduate of the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University with a Bachelor’s in International Affairs and a concentration in National Security Policy. As an undergraduate, Aaron was the captain of his university triathlon team, and in 2017 he competed on Team USA Triathlon at the 20th Maccabiah World Games in Israel.

On October 15, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published reasoned opinions on the modification of the existing MRLs for pyraclostrobin in sweet corn and on the evaluation of confirmatory data following the Article 12 review of cymoxanil and metazachlor.

Proposed MRLs from these reasoned opinions will display in the BCGlobal Pesticide MRL Database on October 16, 2019.
