On April 18, the U.S. FDA confirmed the effective date of December 4, 2018 of an amendment to its food additive regulations concerning synthetic iron oxides that was first published on November 1, 2018.

On April 15, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published FSIS Directive 7120.1 Revision 50. This directive lists safe and suitable ingredients, including food additives, used in the production of meat, poultry, and egg products.

On April 9, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health published Food (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2019. This document amends Malaysia’s food additive regulations and is effective from January 30, 2021.

The Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) has published the full report of its 51st Session, which was held March 25 to 29, 2019 in Jinan, China. The report includes draft food additive amendments proposed for adoption by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC).
