On August 22, Australia's Department of Agriculture and Water Resources published a Consultation Regulation Impact Statement regarding proposed imported food reforms. The report identifies several issues with the current system of regulating and enforcing the safety of imported food, considers several policy options, and makes recommendations. These proposed changes may include revisions to policies and legislation which relate to the testing and enforcement of pesticide residues and other contaminants in imported products.
