On December 26, the U.S. EPA established an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of chlorate in or on cantaloupe and tomato.

Objections and requests for hearing are due by February 25, 2019.

June 24, 2015

On June 24, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a scientific opinion on risks for public health related to the presence of chlorate in food assessed by the EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain (CONTAM Panel). In particular, the hypothetical MRL of 0.7 mg/kg in all foodstuffs and drinking water was assessed for its reduction of acute/chronic exposures and related risks.
