On November 12, Chile’s Ministry of Health published an amendment (in Spanish) concerning food additives to Reglamento Sanitario de los Alimentos No. 977/96. The amendment is effective from May 12, 2020.

Recently, Mexico’s Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) published an amendment to Annex VI of its food additive regulations. It is effective October 10, 2019.

On November 7, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health published Food (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2019. This document amends Malaysia’s food additive regulations and is effective from November 1, 2019. This amendment was originally proposed in February 2019

Recently, Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control published a new regulation regarding enzymes and processing aids. The regulation is effective October 17, 2019 with a 12 month grace period for registered products.

On November 7, Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration adopted an amendment to the Standards for Specification, Scope, Application and Limitation of Food Additives. This amendment was notified to the WTO on November 7. The amendment is effective July 1, 2020.

On October 30, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published two scientific opinions, on the re-evaluation of benzyl alcohol (E 1519) and of sulphuric acid and its sodium, potassium, calcium and ammonium salts (E 513, 514 (i), 514 (ii), 515 (i), 515 (ii), 516 and 517) as food additives.
